I was asked by Yoshi Nagato, an old friend and record producer of mine, to participate in a Hosono tribute project, Of course, I was happy and eager to be involved. Hosono and I met for the first time while I was touring in Japan. We played together on his FM radio show. He played bass, and I played guitar and sang one of my songs, "Slowly". It was honor for me. And now, eight years later, I have sung Hosono song, a beautiful song, "Rock a Bye My Baby". and so I am honored once again.
We decide to do it Bossa Nova style and keep it simple. Yoshi suggested Hank Linderman to engineer it and Van Dyke Parks to play the accordion. Hank is my favorite engineer/producer here in Los Angeles, and also an old friend. Van Dyke and I have worked together before, and I like his special way with music, always tasty, artful, and musical. Well, I thought . . . with all these ingredients, how can we not make a beautiful recording? And so, here it is. I hope you like this recording of "Rock a Bye My Baby" and share in the delight.
Thank you again for allowing us to participate in the magic.
With respect and gratitude, Hirth
